Make Search Criteria Phonetic

By Xelence Documentation posted 05-13-2022 16:06

Introduction

You can set the Soundex property for a field on a lookup form to enable users to search for a value with a phonetic spelling.

Prerequisites

The lookup form must exist.

Quick Steps
1 Search for and open the form
2 Open the field properties
3 Set Allow Soundex to True
4 Save the form

Detailed Steps

Step 1. Search for and open the form.

Open the lookup form you want to enable phonetic search on.

Step 2. Open the field properties.

You are going to configure Soundex for the Last Name. Select Last Name and open its properties.

Step 3. Set Allow Soundex to True.

When Allow Soundex is True, the application will display a checkbox for phonetic search. If checked, it will display search results for records whose values for that field have a similar pronunciation.

Step 4. Save the form.

Then, run the Preview. Xelence displays the form output. You can test your updated settings. When you have previewed your form, it should look something like this:

Enter the last name. The phonetic checkbox is now visible on the form. Uncheck the phonetic checkbox if you don’t want to enable the phonetic search. Click the Search button. You can view only one record that has matching Last Name.

The field you configured now includes a Phonetic checkbox. Enter the last name and check the phonetic checkbox, if you want to enable the phonetic search. Click the Search button. You can view two records that have Last Names with similar sound.

What are the improvements over S3 Version 6?

It is an identical process.
